When I see someone close reading a text and interpreting something like a character being concerned their (canon) friend looks tired and run-down as evidence of romantic/sexual subtext, I wonder how they think characters should be written as treating their platonic friends?
Like... what is the criteria for believing something is a platonic friendship without romance or sex, do they have to have another romantic/sexual partner they clearly care about and value more, or are characters just not supposed to ever be single and have friends, or...?
(This was prompted by something I saw cross my timeline today, but it is not the first time I've seen something like this, I see it frequently, and it's not intended to call anyone out about it or anything, because I get subtext, and shipping, especially queer, and yet...?)
