digital black atlantic course taught with an inquiry guided approach (ie exploring conference programs, dialogs with scholars). creating a dh project prototype was the final. prototyping focuses on exploring imagination, not feasibility - @roopikarisam #CLIRLACC2020

students wanted to map panafrican networks + do a network analysis. spent 6 months doing archival/secondary research bc african diaspora data sets aren't easily accessible/don't exist. @roopikarisam #CLIRLACC2020
project results: not v meaningful network analysis. surfaced other questions: how accept that data sets are not always complete and how to visualize absence? where else can pan-africanist engagement be found besides events, ie. correspondence? @roopikarisam #CLIRLACC2020
reminder that african diaspora data sets are hindered by what's preserved in the cultural record. @roopikarisam ahem, archivists, memory workers, librarians, records managers, curators. #CLIRLACC2020
this goes back to @roopikarisam's earlier idea that being from the global south we don't always the privilege or expectation of wholeness, completeness of our histories due to migration, armed conflict, displacement, etc. #CLIRLACC2020
