I want to come back with a response to the journalist reaction to Newcastle’s 2019/2020. So to Charlie Nicholas and the likes, here it is. A Thread;

1) Its good to be back. As an introduction, let’s take a look at Newcastle’s 2019/20 season, using Scottish Arsenal supporter Charlie Nicholas’ piece on the club as a guide.
2) “Come on, guys, he has” says Charlie. No, he hasn’t. Newcastle finished this season on 44 points, shy of the 45 Rafa achieved last season. The first fallacy of an incredibly lazy paragraph.
3) Newcastle United scored 38 goals in the Premier League in 19/20. This is 4 less than the 42 goals scored in the 18/19 season. This come after selling our two top scorers and replacing them with a ÂŁ40M unproven 23 year old.
4) One thing Nicholas does get right is that “they were more defensively drilled.” Literally worse in every department, conceded more, a far inferior goal difference and were beaten by over four goals on three occasions.
5) ASM has been a good signing. But to me, his natural ability on the ball is what makes him truly special; Bruce has not developed him in any way and if anything he’s been thrown in at the deep end at times to try and drag us through games.
6) Not one Newcastle fan will every question the spirit of Miguel Almiron and he is the majority of fans’ favourite player. But as a journalist, who’s work will be seen by fans of other clubs and want to understand Bruce; it is simply not enough to say “he enjoyed himself.”
7) The first time I genuinely agree. Joelinton had my sympathies at first (young-ish, big price tag, responsibility, time) but it got to the stage where, after trying him everywhere, we realised his only position was on a flight somewhere else. ÂŁ40M for 2 PL goals is a disaster.
8) One of my most hated analogy’s. “If you asked Newcastle fans...” but you don’t. No one in the media does. Thus these idiotic and outlandish theories from pundits who show in what they write that they evidently don’t have a clue what we as fans want.
9) But yes, Charlie, really, because he simply hasn’t. Bruce didn’t get this club back into the Premier League, nor did he finish in the top half at the first time of asking. Or score more goals. Or keep more out. Or do anything better in any way, shape or form.
10) I am in NO WAY justifying everything Rafa Benitez did. I was not a huge fan of the tactics but I trusted them because of what his record with them was. I also felt that he represented another Newcastle, a glimpse into a future without looking over our shoulders.
11) Steve Bruce is a nice bloke. His tracksuits and banter are superb. But he represents another yes man who’ll happily sit back and allow himself to take the hits for the man upstairs. He represents no ambition, and ultimately settling for staying up.
12) The thing is, the journalists know this. His mediocrity is the reason they want him here. A genuinely challenging Newcastle terrifies the likes of Charlie Nicholas. Where was his touting for Bruce when the Arsenal job was going?
13) The fact of the matter is, the fans of Newcastle have to listen to this drivel all day long from every pundit, and only in this time will our togetherness be the best comebacks to these desperate whiners.
14) It is absolutley class to be back making threads again. I’ve truly missed it. Onto a new season and hopefully a new ownership, and hopefully a United fanbase that will fight this type of nonsense click baiting once and for all. #NUFC #NUFCTakeover
