When I see someone get dragged for the vague accusation of "making someone uncomfortable" one of my first thoughts is what are the chances that person is neurodivergent and the accusers are just misreading them and being ablest....
Obviously being autistic or something similar isnt an excuse to be a dick BUT most often I find when someone who is divergent gets called out it's always predated with zero attempts to confront the behavior in a constructive way
I run a server and for a while we had a member no one knew who would insert himself rudely into convos, say off color things and info dump about his kinks. He wasnt good at jiving with the social tides of the server and we all found him a bit odd and at most kinda offputting
Someone complained about him to me, saying he seemed suspicious, I was already totally tuned into the fact that buddy was divergent on some level and just had a hard time with the social cues in the server.
I talked to him directly and told him that he was making some.ppl uncomfortable and he was being rude at times, he immediately apologized and told me that he has problems with this a lot since he has aspergers, and wanted to know exactly what he had done so he
Could try and learn and correct his behavior. He was super genuine and wanted to do better so I told him what I could and said if he was rude or upset someone again he would be booted. I did end up having to boot him but the wild thing was
The only person who complained to me about him went on to track.down his accounts and paint him as a predator (he wasnt) while most of the server just thought he was odd but harmless
It just seems really gross and unfair and cold to cancel folks because of vague and arbitrary things like "made me feel uncomfy" when there is no concrete evidence of wrong doing and no attempt to confront behavior besides mass shame and harassment
This isnt particularly about any one call out, it's just a thought
