Now that it's out on @Xbox I've gotten my hands on Samurai Shodown Neo Geo Collection from @SNKPofficial and @DigitalEclipse and the amount of archival bonus material is STAGGERING.
You wanna see design docs for the character special moves? Check. You want the Evil Haohmaru concept art from SS2 that inspired Rasetsumaru from SSV? Check. Sprites & a profile for Poppy The Dog? Check.
Did you know there was some kind of Samurai Shodown / KOF Quiz game crossover? I didn't! But I do now!
Do you like the music from the Samurai Shodown games? Of course you do! And now you can listen to over 200 tracks across the entire series with the museum audio player!
What about this? Is that an "Old Man Haohmaru"? Sure looks like it, but I can't be sure. It was in the art gallery for "Samurai Shodown: Warriors Rage" which is a separate release from "Samurai Shodown 64: Warriors Rage" and so I'm not really sure what it is!
Sadly, this is probably the closest I'll ever come to having CVS2 on my Xbox One. :( (there's a gallery of all the SamSho related art from CVS2 in this release!)
Would you like to see high level play between masters of the game? Because that's on here too! Final match vids from several Japanese tournaments and text descriptions of what makes these matches special!
And each of the playable games has a cool history page that delves a bit into their original releases. In the case of SSVP there's even a small taste of the awesome story @necrosofty shared on his Twitter about how it came to be.
This is an absolutely DEFINITIVE release of these classic games, and thanks to @Xbox and their commitment to backwards compatibility I'm confident that this release will be the version of Samurai Shodown that I'll be enjoying for the next 15 years!
Steven Frost has a great thread here thanking some of the key folks that made this collection possible. Give them a follow if you want more insight into projects like this: https://twitter.com/frostman007/status/1288184525491539968?s=19
And Brandon Sheffield tells the amazing story of how Digital Eclipse got to release the final OFFICIAL Neo Geo game in 2020 here in this thread: https://twitter.com/necrosofty/status/1265472772928462849?s=19
