🧵THREAD: As immigrant rights organizations, we must drop policies that only lead to more criminalization, policing and incarceration.

Here are 5 policy and messaging ideas immigrant rights groups should STOP using. 1/
The U.S. system of policing is inherently racist and anti-black. We must make sure that the policies we support align with the demands of the movement for Black lives. 2/
The fight against ICE, DHS, and CBP must also include police, sheriffs, and other “law enforcement” agencies that arrest and incarcerate our community. 3/
Carceral responses lead to carceral results. Our response to violence, including state violence, shouldn’t lead to more policing, surveillance and incarceration. 4/
We must stop using messages that just end up being racist dog whistles at the expense of black communities. 5/
Sanctuary policies should mean freedom from all forms of police and state violence. 6/
The “good vs. bad” immigrant narrative and flawed ideas of criminality have helped build the mass immigrant detention system and indiscriminate enforcement apparatus we have today. 7/
This is a moment to deepen our analysis, reflect, and act. 8/8
