Alright y’all. It’s time. A 100% honest review from #YourSkincareFav about @fentyskin’s recent launch! 🙂 I’ll be approaching this review from a few perspectives:

- As a licensed professional first & foremost
- As a consumer
- Using only science and not fear mongering
I just want to first reference this tweet again before we get started lol. And this is NOT a paid review nor am I affiliated with Fenty Skin in any way at the moment (not that it would matter for me tbh). https://twitter.com/caveofbeauty/status/1288108649450176512?s=21
I’ll start with probably the most bold statement I’ll make throughout this thread, but it needs to be said because I always keep it 2 virgils with y’all.

Fenty Skin is simply not going to treat any inflammatory conditions such as:

- Acne
- Hyperpigmentation
- Erythema

Etc.
PLEASE REFERENCE THIS TWEET AGAIN BEFORE WE CONTINUE 😭 https://twitter.com/caveofbeauty/status/1288108649450176512?s=21 https://twitter.com/caveofbeauty/status/1288108649450176512
I mean, I’m quite literally an expert at successfully treating inflammation in the skin and I just know what works and what doesn’t work at this point. So, respect me.

But before we move into discussing inflammation and this line I want to discuss who Fenty Skin WILL work for.
Fenty’s Skin care line should work well for those who are:

- Maintaining their results after treating inflammation
- Have no sensitivities to fragrances or dyes
- Those who experience minimal to no inflammation (grade 1-2 acne only)

Not quite beginners even.
It wouldn’t be my first option for beginners bc they often don’t fully understand their concerns & how to properly manage/treat their skin if anything goes wrong or if it begins to be sensitized by a product. I prefer they use products w/ the least *potential* irritants possible.
What are some of the **potential** irritants? Mainly dyes, fragrances, and witch hazel. I’ve also spoken about how formulation matters a lot before. Just because an ingredient you react to INDEPENDENTLY is present in a FORMULA, you may only react to it at 100% rather than 1%.
I’ve also had to adjust the verbiage I use regarding fragrance to be less dismissive. Some of the language used can be ableist to those who fragrance is *debilitating* to.

So. Fragrance may not quite harm *majority* of you....but it is the most common irritant for a reason 🤷🏾‍♀️
So let’s also take a look at the claims each product makes & see how accurate they are based on their INCI.

- This does remove makeup well (not waterproof mascara imo)
- It DOES do a great job at cleansing and not stripping even with foam🔥
- Purifies pores? Ehhhh. Not quite.
Fat Water claims:

- Niacinamide is the 4th ingredient so the claim with brightening/pores is accurate. But we also don’t know the exact % of niacinamide.
- Does have humectants to promote hydration, also has witch hazel as 2nd ingredient which *may* be drying
- It is thicc lol
Hydra Vizor:

- Definitely brightens the skin & may help with pores due to niacinamide (unsure of %)
- SPF 30 is adequate protection
- Plays well with makeup
- Humectants can give plump appearance which I guess is the fine lines claim? It has plenty of humectants/antioxidants! 🤩
Now, the Hydra Vizor instantly became my absolute favorite product from this launch and my new fav SPF in general. But, I am a bit disappointed that it’s a moisturizer WITH sunscreen rather than a separate moisturizer AND sunscreen.
Sunscreens are formulated with certain properties to ensure their endurance as you’re moving throughout the day and possibly sweating too. Moisturizers are not formulated with this same durability because they don’t need to last for your health/safety. They’re not a drug like SPF
So while moisturizers will easily rub and sweat off, sunscreens are usually a bit more resilient which is why they leave a film when you’re going to remove them. They need to be formulated to STAY and protect the skin for the designated period. Moisturizers don’t.
Doesn’t mean it won’t protect your skin. It simply means that protection *may* be compromised due to the fact it’s a moisturizer not SPF.

Happy to see it’s broad spectrum w/ avobenzone! You’re getting UVA (aging/PIH) & UVB (sunburn) protection + no white cast from Zinc Oxide.
Another point I’d like to make before wrapping this thread is that skincare doesn’t always necessarily have to serve a purpose for you. Sometimes I like doing routines for fun. Fenty is solely a fun skincare line, at this moment. It’s scents make the experience enjoyable for ME.
So here’s my final verdict to wrap this up for now.

Fenty is *wonderful* for people who have successfully treated their inflammation, are cognizant of how to mitigate/treat irritation, or simply have 100% normal skin (the most rare skin type). It’s not for my acne babes YET :/
I also want to say, this isn’t to drag the positive reviews of other professionals. I can’t debate their experience with the line. I can only discuss mine + science! We can all coexist and not 100% agree all the time, in peace*.

*Unless they’re spreading misinformation
For everyone new here, I wanted to reintroduce myself! I’m Lily and I’m a New York licensed esthetician. I’ll be reopening my spa, Skin Wins, soon and offering SAFE invasive (laser, microneedling) & non-invasive solutions to treat external inflammation in skin of color 🤩 https://twitter.com/caveofbeauty/status/1278722809087307777
