THREAD: LOAN OR NO LOAN? In this thread, I will provide my thoughts on each of the 'ESTABLISHED' exciting young stars we have at the club and whether they should stay or be loaned out for next season. RT so more Gooners can see the thread would mean a lot. Enjoy!😁
MEDLEY: Tall (1.95m), left footed and good distribution. I like him but still feel he needs to improve on many aspects before he's thrown into the PL. Can be sloppy in possession at times, sluggish and his positional awareness needs improvement. I think he's a
player that would benefit hugely with minutes in the Championship. Its a brutal and physically demanding league which will allow Medley to work on many aspects of his game that are still raw. Although they play in different positions, Emi Martinez has benefited hugely from his
time with Reading in the championship, improving in aspects such as commanding his area and dealing with set piece situations. Medley, although is a tall CB, still lacks aggression and physicality but would improve on this if given consistent game time in the championship. LOAN!
GUENDOUZI: Certainly has potential but at the moment his positional awareness is shocking, far too slow in releasing the ball, doesn’t provide adequate protection to our back line and offers nothing in terms of a goal threat. Has been poor this season after a promising start.
His attitude is a real concern and it’s an aspect that has been highlighted by previous coaches as well. Players like Ravel Morrison and Adel Taarabt, for example, had similar issues and is what stopped them from developing into better players. Both Taarabt and Ravel had bags of
ability and talent but their ceiling became limited because of their poor attitude. Matteo has ability but bad attitude is an aspect that frustrates me and with him being a serious asset who can generate funds, forget the loan, sell him! SELL!!!
ESR: Really excited about him. What i like was his desire to go out on loan, learn his trade and gain experinece in a physically demanding league in the championship. A player who is capable of playing in between the lines and providing creativity with key passes to the
attacking players. If it was a choice between one of Willcok and ESR going on loan, then ESR stays for me. But i do think another loan will help aid his development and allow him to learn his trade quicker by gaining regular game time. LOAN IF WE HAVE ENOUGH CREATIVE COVER!
WILLOCK: A player with potential. His best position is as a number 8. The type of player I feel he's looking to replicate is Arron Ramsey. Always wants to drive with the ball and provide a goalscoring impact. But his biggest set back currently is his lack of ruthlessness and..
decision making in the final third. Games against Watford away,Bournemouth away and Chelsea at home, he had opportunities towards the end to make the difference. But he lacked the intelligence needed when it really mattered. Thats the difference between taking 9 points as opposed
to the only 2 we achieved. 20 years old with plenty of aspects in his game that need developing such has his efficiency on the ball, ball retention and his ability to release the ball quicker. Currently he holds onto it for too long which slows the tempo of our play. A loan...
at a lower PL club or in the championship will allow him to learn his trade and quicken his development. We can then analyse his condition the year after. A lot depends on the squad depth we have within midfield as well. If next season, our...
midfield compromises of Xhaka, Torreira, Ceballos and 2 CM's with different profiles, then I would say he have enough options. Even Saka could cover at LCM if we move to Arteta's favoured 4-3-3. LOAN!
SAKA: Absolute revelation and the signs of his ability were evident from last year. His rise in his development has been phenomenal and has showed his capabilities to play in many different roles (LB, LWB, LW, RW, LCM). He's a player who fights for a starting spot next year. STAY!
NELSON: I really rate Reiss. He's a player I was very impressed with in the academy and showed promising signs during the first half of his loan spell at Hoffenheim. What he possesses is a quick burst of pace, and can reach 0-100 in an instance. We saw this against Watford on
Sunday.Good with both feet, capable on both wings and has a high ceiling in my opinion. One aspect i want him to work on is to be more brave and direct when he receives the ball in front of him. Take note of Saka. He has the ability but must utilise it in a way which allows...
him to reach his maximum potential. His performances in the cup have been strong, with good displays against Leeds and Portsmouth. You could argue that a loan will benefit him, but my gut feeling is that he is capable of challenging Pepe on the right next year. STAY!
NKETIAH: CF who ticks the boxes for Arteta in terms of out of possession intensity provided. When the service is right, he will score goals. He does need to work on certain fundamental aspects if he's to be successful as a CF in a 4-3-3 such as his ability to link play together
and provide effective hold up play. His intelligence when he drops in between the lines needs improving as well. I would keep him as a squad player and provide competition for the CF spot. If we are, come January, in a position to loan him and allow..
him to seek regular minutes, i wouldn't be opposed to it. But right now, keep him for next season. STAY!
MARTINELLI: I absolutely love him! Has been a revelation. His level of performance and consistency both in the cup competitions and in the PL has been brilliant. I reiterate that he has been just as impressive as Greenwood. Why? Because Martinelli came from the FOURTH division in
Brazil, has had to adapt to the style, culture and pace of the league. All these factors had no affect on his levels and he's hit the ground running from the get go. Was very impressive in pre season. Stepped up in the three games in the league following Auba’s red. Serious
talent, unpredictable dribbler, has that killer instinct and is a proper CF. What I like about him is his desire and willingness to get a shot off whenever he receives the ball. His future shouldn’t be on the wing but he could easily provide cover here as well. STAY!
