Happy #TerpeneTuesday! Let's focus on terpinolene today! (Ter-pin-o-lean) The ending -ene means a double bond is present which is seen below! People have said the aroma is best described as a "fresh" smell.
Found in trees like lilacs, tea tree, and interestingly APPLES! Think of cumin and nutmeg... A dynamic aroma from floral to citrus and herbaceous-pine.

Lets talk about anticancer properties! Terpinolene had shown in 2013 to kill brain cancer using rat models. It also has shown to affect the expression of AKT. AKT mediates cell proliferation and survival signals. Activation of ATC is involved in a lot of cancers.
In 2011, there was a study showing sage, rosemary and other extracts were used in vitro. They then found the amount of proteins (that are responsible for cancer growth) through a thing called Western Blot (doesnt reall matter, just interesting).
It showed that terpinolene was effective in reducing ATK. 2nd lane is rosemary, 3rd is sage, 4th is green tea. The first lane was not treated and shows much more presence of ATK! https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3362481/
