Conservatives will really sit there and tell you ‘well broccoli is only 50p but an oven pizza is £1 so poor people only eat unhealthily because they’re lazy’ as if it’s reasonable to expect people to eat plain vegetables and nothing else for dinner. It’s so dystopian.

Firstly, obviously you need more than one or two ingredients to make a decent healthy meal, secondly fresh healthy ingredients tend to go off pretty quickly, so you can’t buy in bulk to make them cheaper, and third why do we expect poor people to live without any small luxuries??

Not to mention the amount of time and effort it takes to cook good quality meals, which many people working long hours or multiple jobs do not reasonably have, especially if you don’t already know how to pretty well.

ALSO we should stop treating poor people as if they have to be at maximum efficiency at all times, and if they take a break or go for a more convenient/less healthy option acting as if that’s a character flaw instead of them needing luxuries to stay sane like the rest of us.

I can’t tell who knows how difficult the situation is and just has genuine contempt for people less fortunate than them, and who really just can’t understand that there are multiple factors to every issue and that no one has this inhuman level of self-control they seem to expect.

Get anyone who’s spouting this shit about eating healthy being easy for everyone and get them to work 60 hours a week with a £2 food budget a day to make good nutritious meals for a month.

See how quickly they crack.
