Askenazi and Mizrahi are not racial categories. I don't believe we need to have this conversation but apparently we do.
Apparently some of you think European Jews and MENA Jews just completely lost contact with each other and developed along different evolutionary lines.
Jews moved back and forth across the boundaries. There was a massive influx of Spanish Jews to Poland in 1550, who assimilated into the Ashkenazi Jewish community there.
There were Sephardic communities in Berlin, Altona, Glückstadt, Leipzig, Poznan and Offenbach/Frankfurt. There were THREE Sephardic Temples in Copenhagen.

There was a lot of intermarriage assimilation.
Maghrebi Jewish traders from North Africa had frequent contact with Ashkenazi communities and may have settled along the Rhine. Again, intermarriage and assimilation resulted.
