I first me Victor Osimhen shortly before the 2015 Eaglets left for Niamey, Niger Republic for the #CANU17 in 2015.
I later joined them in Niamey just before Nigeria's first game with the hosts.
Tall, lanky but well spoken. His command of the English language was cool.

Thanks to Emmanuel Amuneke (who is a friend by the way) I had unfiltered access to the team (both at the hotel and training) and I was impressed by the boys.
They gave me joy in the last group game by beating the boastful Zambians 3-1.
Osimhen scored twice that day

About four of the players stood out to me.
Kelechi Nwakali was the star man both on and off the pitch. Victor Osimhen was a marvel to watch. Abass Auwal, the left back delighted me to heavens and I am still shocked he is in the football wilderness till date.

Abass Auwal was a brilliant left back with a wicked cross. My heart bleeds how he lost his way.
There was also Samuel Chukwueze with his deft left football and the frail looking Michael Kingsley.
Osimhen was always jovial in training and was hardworking.

I remember vividly how Amuneke spent time talking to Osimhen and showing him how to make runs and position himself for crosses and all that.
At one time I volunteered to whip in the crosses for him during training.
Five years down the line, the dividends have surfaced.

Victor Osimhen, if everything goes according to plan with soon be the most expensive Nigerian footballer of all time.
I didn't see this coming as early as this despite the huge promise when he was 16 but I am glad I was there from the beginning.
