Waiting for #EmmyNominations but will AsAms be even in the mix?
Parasite’s Oscar wins were such a high. I never expected it would win best picture even though I knew it deserved it. This is how people on the margins brace themselves for exclusion and disregard.
Parasite doesn’t need an Oscar to be universally acknowledged as great. After all, Bong Joon-ho himself said the Oscars are “very local.” But for AsAms, being recognized in our own country matters. Only one actor of Asian descent has ever won an Emmy: Archie Panjabi (2010).
Sandra Oh was the first Asian woman nominated for a lead actress Emmy in 2018, but she didn’t win.
But Queen Sandra did make history at the Golden Globes as:
*First woman of Asian descent in 39 years to win a Golden Globe for best actress in a TV drama.
*First woman of Asian descent to win multiple Golden Globes
*First host of Asian descent https://www.vox.com/culture/2019/1/7/18171587/sandra-oh-golden-globes-2019-history-milestones
Darren Criss was the first Filipino American actor to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series/Movie and the first to win a Golden Globe. He may be nominated today for another Emmy for portraying a mixed race Asian American character on #Hollywoodnetflix.

Congratulations to @pronounced_ing for the multiple nominations for #LittleFiresEverywhere, including Outstanding Lead Actress for @kerrywashington and Outstanding Limited Series!
Congratulations to Sandra Oh (was worried that she wasn't going to be nominated for a second when she was read second to last). She is the only AsAm acting #EmmyNom, per usual. Sigh.
Darren Criss and Michelle Krusiec deserved better. #HollywoodNetflix
So where's that bump from Crazy Rich Asians? With Fresh Off the Boat off the air, we have few to none Asian-majority shows on TV and streaming.
One more Asian actor #EmmyNom! Dev Patel for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. So Sandra Oh and Dev Patel are the Asian acting nominees.
“Watchmen,” cloaked in superhero mythology and grounded in real-world racism, leads with 26 #EmmyNominations https://apnews.com/f12347dae120f532cc2142b28bcd037b?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=AP&utm_campaign=SocialFlow
Another Asian American acting nominee! Rain Valdez for outstanding actess in a short form comedy/drama. That makes three Asian #EmmyNoms! https://twitter.com/rainvaldez/status/1288166912761851907
I never knew that D'Arcy Carden is Turkish American. Thanks @tonykchoi for the intel! I love her on #TheGoodPlace. Excited for her and William Jackson Harper's #EmmyNoms. Would've loved to see Jameela Jamil and Manny Jacinto nominated too.
And MJ Rodriguez is just brilliant. #Pose
