firstly non binary is not new at all!! many indeginous cultures veiwed gender as a spectrum as far back as 400 BCE the two binaries (male and female) are what is fairly new. It has grown to become a huge part of our lives but really it has much less history
the two binaries were completely colonized and forced by the west, as mentioned before indigenous cultures always veiwed gender as a spectrum. now you didn’t open this thread for a history dump and on the assumption your a little bored let me get into to why i said this.
Non binary is a spectrum. Non binary is NOT the lack of gender. A transmed would quote this and say i’m stupid but it’s just the facts. The idea that non binary is “scientifically” the lack of gender is not only forcing us into a trinary it is anti indigenous.

many of these genders have history and are not new. I am not going to give a full length essay on each one but instead i’ll give you examples of genders within the non binary spectrum.

here are some common non binary identities!
agender - genderless (aka what many cis people think is the default of non binary)
bigender - a gender where you can experience two identities at once
genderfluid - fluidity between gender (does not matter what that entails the only-

non binary people do not have to use they/them pronouns!! they can use any pronouns they feel comfy with and their may be trauma around certain pronouns so don’t question a fem aligned non binary person who uses he/him pronouns.

lastly non binary people are included in 𝖾𝗏𝖾𝗋𝗒 sexuality except for that vixen smth smth bullshit. why? non binary isn’t a trinary!! forcing us into trixic or troxic is doing exactly that! for example as long as a non binary person is fem or unaligned they can be lesbian
but a masc aligned person cannot. it’s the same thing for being gay (not the “umbrella term”, mlm gay) but opposite. The explanation on pronouns before should explain why he/him and they/them lesbians can exist as well as she/her and they/them gays.

one more thing, if you have an irl on twitter and you new them as a “girl” don’t immediately assume they are non binary!! be supportive if they are but they also may be cis! for example the pronouns she/they and he/they are used frequently by both cis and non binary people
