NYC school chancellor just sent out another parent letter saying parents need to decide whether they're in person or remote by 8/7 while the mayor is saying he won't decide whether there will be in person school until 72 hrs before the first day of class. So all solid.
the new hunger games curriculum is going to be amazing.
3/ One interesting side note to this is that DeBlasio/Carranza has a mantra that most families are demanding in school learning, which has become a kind of DOE gaslighting. They arrive at this by interpreting a question about how much in-school learning ...
4/ people want as long as it can be made safe. Well obviously EVERYBODY wants as much as possible and really all in school as long as it's safe. But Carranza and DeBlasio breeze over that part and just keep saying welp parents want in school so we're just responding to parents.
5/ They also refer to this survey to say 75% of parents are good to go with school. If any political pollster advising a candidate interpreted polls this way they'd be fired immediately.
6/ A reasonable interpretation of this is that even when you tell parents that they'll be sure to do all the distancing and precautions. 20% so no way, another 24% have "a little confidence" and only 28% percentage say they're actually confident.
7/ There are various ways to interpret this but 75% want in school learning is not a reasonable way to interpret. That's even more the case when you add in the even the Mayor is basically saying he's not sure if it it'll be safe or not.
9/ One fair way to interpret that number is that half of NYC school families have little or no confidence their children or they themselves will be safe if they enter the school buildings.
