Watching an industry stream. Taking a shot every time someone says:

Media
Thought Leader
Synergy
Growth
Mobile
I’m drunk five minutes in 😂
(That was a joke, no booze allowed during working hours.)
What’s adorable about this stream is how it ignores existing media coverage. I guess if it isn’t pro-industry coverage...🙃
Oh now it’s 5G as the industry game changer.
I’m old enough to remember when carrier billing and then cheap data were labelled by the Indian games biz as how it would make money. And before those two it was cricket + Bollywood and “localising popular global IP” 😂
Every few years the bar keeps changing because those setting it don’t even know what they’re doing.
“The media should take the positive stories and put them out there.” 😂
LMAO. The moderator doesn’t know when the company founder he’s talking about was founded.😂
“You’re the big daddy”😂
“What a PS is.”😂
Real 👏🏻 money 👏🏻 gaming 👏🏻 is 👏🏻gambling 👏🏻 not 👏🏻 gaming except the “industry” doesn’t think so.
“How did the last 2-3 months change the perception of gaming in India?”

Yes yes because “perception” changes in a couple of months 😂
At least the guy answering the question finessed it well enough.
“200, 300, 500 percent growth in views, impressions, players.”

Uh huh. But if this is on a base of 0, 1, or 2....🙃
Okay now one of the speakers is finally talking sense. Doesn’t claim his growth is more than 50% in viewership.
“Esports is a virtuous cycle and a great growth driver for us,” says one PC guy. Yeah my dude, if so why don’t you ever comment on your sales data? Last everyone checked it was abysmal.
“You will become our voice in media,” says one biz exec to the panel moderator. Cringe.
Yeah the moderator is definitely the most annoying dude of the bunch. Clueless about aspects of the business works. You don’t ask a hardware guy about average revenue per paying user as he’s not running a service.
“Oh we’re selling more of ABC accessory. But the numbers don’t matter.”

Uh yeah. Looks like hardware guys taking a page from the Indian casual game developer/publisher book😂
“50X consumption spike without much intervention from our side.”

Sounds ridiculous but considering that this specific speaker works in a space that’s super mass market, likely to believe it.
Someone tell the moderator that asking a panel how much money they’re making never gets you a straight answer or in a lot of cases, no answer😂
“Brands who spend on gaming have massive interest,” says a guy who runs an ad tech firm🙃

In other news, water is wet.
“We were educating the media on how the gaming can happen online, like e-commerce.”

*cringe*
“Media is definitely covering that families are playing games together.”

Sure bro, my folks are squadding up with me in PUBGM😂.
“People pirated games because no one wanted to spend ₹5,000-6,000 a game.”

😂
“Tenfold rise, several quarters of growth in the last two months.”

So just like Activision and EA and every big publicly traded AAA publisher minus actual revenue but with the eventual lay-offs.
Now one speaker is explaining how PCs are upgradable. 🙄
Now they’re comparing video game IAPs to rice and veggies.
Wow someone invoked the Holy Ghost of Indian Mobile Revenue Past aka Caller Tunes while conveniently forgetting that telcos got spanked for using such services to double or triple bill the same user🤫
Okay common sense finally. Someone brought up that “we’re seeing growth, we’ve seen it before but absolute numbers are low.”
Moderator: “So what’s your consumer behaviour?”
Disturbing that outside of one hypercasual developer there are no other game publishers or developers in this alleged industry panel. Makes me almost miss Nasscom/IGDC even if it was glorified VC bait (to the point where Indian press was not welcome).
Archiving a copy in case it gets taken down.
