Rapid growth in #MedicareAdvantage is accelerating into the #Covid19 pandemic. Check out growth rates for @UHC @Humana @Aetna for first quarter.
At this rate, #MedicareAdvantage becomes the dominant form of #Medicare by 2024 – and this is chosen by beneficiaries / not mandatory for anyone.
One of the reasons is that the #MedicareAdvantage benefit has become superior to fee for service – with a range services from food to telemedicine being offered within a set budget, with strong support from @AHIPCoverage and @BMAlliance. This is important and needs to continue.
And also raises the question: how can we establish parity for those beneficiaries who want to stay in FFS, at a reasonable cost to the program? Particularly important for patients with rare cancers and other complex healthcare conditions who need access to specific providers.
We need to explore how to modernize the fee for service benefit. With engagement from @AmericanCancer @AmDiabetesAssn @NHCouncil and others. Many mechanisms can be used - #CMMI demonstrations, or if not, explore legislation.
