Good morning Winnipeg!
Every once in a while I get asked why we do or don't cover something. So here's why:
1. It depends on resources that day - how many staff do we have? What can we cover?
2. We prioritize the news daily - so something we might do one day, we can't another.
Every once in a while I get asked why we do or don't cover something. So here's why:
1. It depends on resources that day - how many staff do we have? What can we cover?
2. We prioritize the news daily - so something we might do one day, we can't another.
3. You have no idea how often we look into things that are posted on social media that turn out to be fake or not true.
4. We often get ideas from people where things have happened - but they won't talk to us about it. We can't do a story about what's happened to you without you.

5. Sometimes things that are very, very interesting to you aren't to interesting or newsworthy to the general public. That hurts a lot of people's feelings when we say that, but it's unfortunately true.
6. We can't cover what's happening on the other side of the world, sorry.
6. We can't cover what's happening on the other side of the world, sorry.
7. No one told us it was happening.
8. Sometimes you tell us your story but we can't get anyone to corroborate or confirm anything. I hate it when this happens, but it does happen.
So how DO you get your story covered?

So how DO you get your story covered?
1. Do something new. As much as charity walks are important, there are hundreds of them and we could cover one daily if we wanted. But a charity pogo stick event? We're there.
2. Be available. If you're letting us know about something, make sure we can contact you right away.

3. Be truthful. Don't exaggerate, because we will figure that out.
4. Be brave. It's scary talking to reporters, especially as a whistleblower. But we protect people who come to us this way.
5. We can't cover everything. But if we don't know about it, we won't be there.
