I’m feeling quite low at the moment trying to manage the awful things that I see in the newspapers & on Social Media promoting the ‘countryside’ as nothing more than a playground & pretending that it’s ‘wild’. ‘Wild swimming’, ‘wild camping’ etc.
They are not ‘wild’ - they are using the land for free, land that is run by farmers the grow food for the country, land that is lived in by other people, land that is home to the small amount of wildlife this country still supports. The countryside is not wild, nor can it cope.
Campsites and swimming pools need to open to accommodate the people who need exercise, and the Countryside Code could to be displayed everywhere - shop windows, sent out with accommodation bookings etc to help people understand how to ‘be’ in the outdoors.
I’m going to take some time out from Social Media - although it’s hard not to see headlines in papers - to help settle my head into a better place. It’s possible I see too much of the bad & not enough of the good. I hope the latter can stem the tide of human destruction.
