I am positive about a lot of our players but we have an issue in that a number of players who were recruited for Stendel's system who probably won't fit Struber's. On top of that there are a couple of areas we could strengthen, but it would impede our most promising prospects. https://twitter.com/dougokane88/status/1288046278966939649
We desperately need a different option up front and, regrettably, I don't really think Woodrow is a natural fit for how we'll develop under Struber (if he stays on), especially if we recruit another striker.
We need a left back. I am unconvinced B. Williams can progress enough at this level, and Oduor has potential but I think it's better served elsewhere on the pitch. J. Williams has more potential but still struggles, if Ludewig doesn't come back we need an option there.
Sibbick is returning from loan and it'll be interesting to see if he'll get any opportunities. A lot of players like J. Williams, Oduor, Simoes, Thomas, etc are risky because we either strengthen, as we probably should, and limit their development, or take a chance with them.
Should strengthen IMO, although I wouldn't mind seeing Thomas given ago as an AM, he's naturally a wide man and I'm not sure we'll ever play a system accomodating that again. Same issue with Simoes, I fear, although he's probably more suited to playing centrally.
Players like Palmer and Wolfe are interesting because both have briefly shown promise, especially Palmer. Do we strengthen in midfield, or settle on letting him and Styles develop with Mowatt and Ritzmaier the experienced midfielders. I'd like a holding midfielder but there was
absolutely no benefit to Dougall being at the club under Struber and I'm not certain he'd opt against playing Mowatt deep going forward - if we keep Mowatt, ofc
We could really, really do with a naturally creative midfielder though. I want the players who have come through the club to progress because they all look like talents for once but we desperately lacked cutting edge in midfield, especially once Mowatt started playing deeper and
even more so post lockdown.
