I think it’s important - especially with all these “let’s normalize”/“lets not normalize” posts going around - that mental illness and neurodivergent symptoms have different levels of severity that can be expressed variably from individual to individual. These aren’t universal.
I think people have a strong desire to categorize some experience down to the finest detail and thus end up delegitimize the experience of people with the same diagnoses but different expression. It’s okay not to use definitive terminology when discussing symptoms that affect u.
Some things ARE defined very particularly and it’s okay to stress that so people don’t misuse terms that are important to describing what ppl with mental illness or neurodivergence go thru accurately. But not every term/symptom is like that.
To be specific I’m talking about things like invasive thought or hyperfixation and how they manifest in different forms in individuals. Not everyone needs to have the same experience to have it be a legitimate aspect of what they have to manage day to day.
