Happy Day to everyone 😃

Due to technical difficulties, we have reserved today as a day we will share about what Mentorship is, why we believe it’s important & to discuss any & other things surrounding Mentorship. We hope you enjoy & engage with us on this. #MentorshipZim
Mentorship can be described as the relationship between two people, where the “Mentor” has more experience, knowledge & connections & is able to pass along what they have learned to the “Mentee” who would be a junior individual in the specific targeted area of Mentorship.
Mentor: this a person who guides another less experienced person through modeling of positive behaviors & building trust. A mentor must be dependable, trustworthy, engaged, authentic & must understand the needs of the Mentee.
The word mentor comes from the character "Mentor" in Homer's epic tale, The Odyssey. Mentor was a trusted friend of Odysseus, the King of Ithaca. When Odysseus fought in the Trojan War, Mentor served as friend and counsel to Odysseus' son Telemachus.
Mentee: this is a dedicated student who seeks to grow personally, develop professionally and successfully reach his/her academic/professional goals with the support of a peer mentor.
The success of any Mentorship relationship depends on communication that open, honest & respectful. A mentor cannot assist a mentee fully if the mentee is not open. At the same time, a mentee cannot be fully open if the mentor doesn’t create such an atmosphere of trust.
A mentor can help you advance within your field and connect you with opportunities that you might not have otherwise had access to. They do this by sharing their knowledge, helping you identify opportunities in your path, and potentially opening doors for you when the time comes.
Healthy characteristics of a good Mentor include;

•Extensive experience in a related or relevant field
•Similar educational background
•Has overcome relatable challenges
•Friendly and genuine personality
•Credible and trustworthy character
•Must not feel threatened by empowering others
•Favorably disposed to flexible mentoring styles
•Open to learning from the mentee.

You’ll only get out of this what you put into it. Your mentor can only take you part of the way; the other half requires effort from the mentee.
Mentorship is a journey, not a magical process where you become successful overnight. It requires patience, commitment & effort in order for it to be a success. Humility is key so you’re both able to learn from each other as the process is reciprocal.
As the mentee, you must have a clear objective that is specific and measurable. It is not your mentor’s job to help you discover what you are hoping to gain from the experience. Then, you must be willing and eager to learn.
For now we can engage and ask questions where clarification is sought. Thank you ☺️ #MentorshipZim
