Interested in #preprints? Here’s what our recent survey told us about perceptions of benefits & concerns among stakeholders (librarians, journalists, funders, research administrators, students and more).
546 responses were received, mostly from researchers in academia (337), with good representation from Latin America & the Caribbean (178)
Top benefits of #preprints: increasing speed of research communication & being free to read, both seen as “very beneficial”; Top concerns: premature media coverage & publicly sharing information before peer review, both seen as “very concerning”
Perceived benefits & concerns change when data is sliced by #preprint authors/non-authors. Those who have posted a preprint generally see them as more beneficial but, premature media coverage is the top concern across the board.
Are authors with more favorable perceptions about preprints more likely to create them or does the act of preprinting cause authors to better understand the pros & cons?
