Society as a whole likes to weaponise an individual's sense of guilt in the most manipulative ways. It's never said outright but strongly implied that we should feel guilty about things that bring us happiness.
We are made to feel guilty about the media we enjoy, the food we eat, the clothes we wear, even the people we love and how we love them. These are all things that most of us will have had someone try to make us feel guilty for.
Society came up with the term "Guilty Pleasure" as if to say "While we acknowledge this makes you happy we do not endorse your choices and think you should feel bad about it" Well, you know what? Fuck that. I don't give a shit about whether anyone else approves of what I enjoy.
I am going to enjoy junk food. I know it isn't good for me, I can tell because it tastes good. Yes, I am what would be termed "overweight" but I pretty much like the size I am now. I have a big 'ol gut, if you find that unattractive so what? I'm not trying to attract with you.
I like films that you think are bad? So what? I am not making you watch them. Why do you care that I like something you don't? Why does everyone have to have the same opinion on what is good and bad. Let me watch Trancers in peace, it has nothing to do with you.
I am going to wear baggy clothes because they are comfortable, Hawaiian because I like them and all the geeky T-shirts I can get my hands on. I am going to wear my Doctor Who scarf when it's cold. You know why? Because I knitted it myself so I have earned the damn right!
As long as you are not causing harm to anyone else the like what you like, love what you love, do what brings you joy and fuck anyone who says you are wrong to do so. Pleasure is nothing to feel guilty about and joy should be unconfined.
