Okay, I KEEP seeing this kind of performatively stunned tweet, calling out individuals for going back to normalcy, implying that they are selfish and gaslighting the responsible few, the “only ones” thinking about anyone besides themselves...
This is gross. This is classist and smug. This is virtue-signalling. You know who’s ACTUALLY gaslighting us? Who lied to us? Who expects us to self-police, fundraise and do their job for them? The G O V E R N M E N T
At least in the UK, the government is actively bribing people to eat at Wagamamas. Look at the “Save Summer Six”, a crack force of goons hell bent on saving the econo- sorry, “our” summer. We’re being force-fed PROPAGANDA.
Your news literacy is a privilege. The media and government have sent us more mixed messages than a thirtysomething Hinge bro that can’t commit. Stop lambasting INDIVIDUALS for perceived violation of a social contract that is under constant revision by clueless egomaniacs.
Your ability to stay home is a privilege. So many of my friends and family have had to work throughout lockdown, or put themselves in harm’s way to literally care for other people. Wanna shame them for having socially distanced pints now it’s officially “allowed”? Fuck you.
My heart breaks for everyone who is, cares for, works with anyone more at risk, for those who have to shield and for whom lockdown hasn’t ‘eased’ or ‘ended’ in any way. For those who don’t want to go out and risk their loved ones but simply have to. We all deserve better.
I’m not doing some things the government says is OK because I simply don’t believe it’s safe but I’m also not going to shame people for drinking the “everything’s cool” Kool-Aid. BE angry. BE scared. EDUCATE. But for fuck's sake, pick better targets.
