Something I refuse to do as a cop is something we refuse to stop doing as a nation. There are actually more than two extreme options for situations. Cops abuse people or cops have no guns & only hug people. That’s it. Or violate protesters’ rights or let them burn a courthouse...
You see, there are actually other options to your two extremes. LIKE THERE ARE SO MANY OPTIONS. oh, you say cops are too indiscriminate with violence, then fine let the criminals do whatever..You either let someone burn a courthouse or you shoot mothers in a line cuz that’s it..
I beg you to ignore anyone who says we have only two options, which are always ‘do nothing’ or ‘do it wrong’ to any situation. Especially in law enforcement. My entire approach to being a local cop is that there are never only two options. This isn’t Hollywood or fundraising.
It’s useless to talk to people who say ‘oh, you think cops should act publicly with their name & department so I guess you want cop families to be murdered’. Yep. That’s it. There is no other option. You say we work for our neighbors? Ok, then let them kill you cuz that’s it...
And another thing. I saw this garbage in the counterterrorism world where fake tough people who never actually met a terrorist decided that we should hold ourselves to the standards of the terrorists. Oh, you object to water boarding? Well they will cut your head off. Makes sense
And we do it ALL THE TIME w/ police matters. Oh, you think cops could be better? Look what the criminals do!! Cuz that’s the only two options. Do nothing or do it wrong. Suggest we don’t have to be this way and people yell ‘fine, then, rapes for everyone!’ Cuz of course it’s that
But you see, it isn’t really that. Spend some time working terrorism issues on the street & you’ll see life isn’t an episode of 24; spend some time working with your neighbors as a cop & you’ll see life isn’t a tweet from an avatar. If you think that way then you let that happen
