1.4 Tuesdays usually witnesses higher numbers of new #Covid19 cases. Laboratories that were working at low capacity over the weekend receive a high load on Monday, and the results are reported on Tuesday. What is the reason for the false positive results reported recently?
2.4 Laboratories have been working under tremendous pressure to do more tests. The number of tests done has almost quadrupled in the past week. Staff being overworked and pressured to deliver results in a short time with minimal breaks can lead to errors. To err is human.
3.4 “Pooling”, where specimens are processed in groups, can introduce contamination. Running quality control checks is both time consuming and costly. So is repeating a PCR test or running a confirmation. This is amplified in an environment of for-profit laboratories.
4.4 Still, the number of daily tests achieved should be commended. Considering the number, the reported false positives remain infrequent. What 🇱🇧 has accomplished in testing is good. Let us now focus on how we can control the epidemic without further ruining our economy.
