Sooo...I’m @ a doctors appt today and as usual the PA sees me. I’ve seen this person for years and they’re very friendly and professional. We’re talking about Portland when out of nowhere they say: "I think George Soros and Marxists have infiltrated the protesters." 1/

This was one of the rarest of occasions: one in which I was totally speechless. I struggled to process what this person, who I’d previously considered highly intelligent, was saying to me. The comment contradicted my entire perception of this person. 2/

While I sat there having my BP taken, with my mouth hanging open behind my mask, this person went on abt a variety of issues, apparently not noticing that I’m looking at them like they’re crazy. The whole time like "do I really want to go tf off in my drs office

I mean, what freaked tf out was that this wasn’t racism, so much as an Earth II kind of worldview I have never encountered IRL. I just started broaching topics, just to hear the response. I mentioned school re-segregation, they were like "that’s why we need vouchers."

Why am I telling this tale? Bc this person isn’t a flag waving Trump supporter. This was an intelligent upper class professional that sincerely thought they were operating with good information. This is what we’re up against. This is why we have to get everybody we know to vote.
