Thread: The Senate Republican #COVIDRelief package – no eviction moratorium extension, no #homelessness assistance, no eviction prevention, no new housing vouchers, no #RentReliefNow. https://www.cbpp.org/press/statements/greenstein-senate-republican-covid-relief-proposal-fails-to-meet-needs-of
Seriously? Why is this so hard?
Funding for #housing vouchers and emergency rental assistance will help tenants pay past due & current rent & help landlords pay their bills too. #RentReliefNow https://www.cbpp.org/research/housing/pandemic-relief-must-include-comprehensive-housing-assistance-for-people

$$ is also needed to help people experiencing #homelessness. They are at greater risk of contracting #COVID19 and communities are struggling to alter congregate services (like shelters) so that people stay safe. #RentReliefNow https://www.cbpp.org/housing/the-rent-is-still-due-americas-renters-covid-19-and-an-unprecedented-eviction-crisis
Many people experiencing homelessness are being placed in hotels and motels to stay safe during the health crisis. NC has placed over 3,500 people in hotels and CT has helped 50% of their homeless population with hotel space. #RentReliefNow https://www.newsobserver.com/news/coronavirus/article241852641.html
Housing vouchers will make sure they (and the thousands of other people around the country) aren’t evicted back onto the street. #RentReliefNow
Vouchers can also help people leaving domestic violence situations, exiting institutional care, and help people with disabilities secure safe housing, all of whom are at high risk of sustained/repeated homelessness. #RentReliefNow
And there’s no extension of the eviction moratorium extension. The absolute easiest thing to do didn’t make it on the Senate Republican’s list. Alone the extension isn’t enough but it is definitely needed to help close gaps. #RentReliefNow
We also need #RentReliefNow to keep people in their homes!
Evictions are always harmful, but the pandemic adds more health concerns, & the economic crisis & high unemployment will make it even harder for families to get back on their feet. https://www.cbpp.org/research/housing/extend-cares-act-eviction-moratorium-combine-with-rental-assistance-to-promote

The Senate Republican #COVIDRelief package does include $3.2 billion to cover mostly operational costs for those currently receiving rental assistance. This helps #housing agencies avoid cutting their programs. Important to do but not nearly enough. #RentReliefNow
The next federal #COVIDRelief package must include emergency short-term rental assistance, emergency #housing vouchers, #homelessness assistance, & extensions of income support. Millions of people are depending on it! #RentReliefNow
