Okay so I’ve got to rant about the #harrypotter fiasco with @travismcelroy . Travis is one of the most kind-hearted and loving content creators out there. He wanted to join a trivia stream for something he enjoyed. After everything came out about JK Rowling (1/?)
He hesitated, but the other streamers distanced themselves from the views of the author, ensuring an audience of oppressed people that they were heard and safe. That gave Travis the ease of mind he needed to go ahead, and he was absolutely reamed for it. Unfairly so (2/?)
He was criticized for wanting to participate in a hobby he loved. Now as someone affected by the vitriol Rowling spat, but was never into Harry Potter, I feel like I don’t have a horse in this race. But all of these people telling me, telling US that we should... (3/?)
Be offended by Travis’s lack of psychic powers to predict that some people would be hurt by his actions. So many people called his pulling out of the trivia stream “too little, too late” which is bullshit, he did exactly what anyone would do in that situation. (4/?)
How should we expect these people to be saints, to know exactly what to say when, rather than simply want them to learn and grow from their mistakes. Travis is a caring person and he made the right call but ultimately, he’s being shamed for doing the right thing (5/6)
In conclusion, let people do the right things and don’t shame them for not being perfect. Thank Travis for Travis ❤️
