1) An N.D.G. summer hockey camp that closed Saturday after at least three teenagers and a 23-year-old coach tested positive for the coronavirus is the latest #COVID19 outbreak to hit Montreal. 2) On Monday, Deputy Premier @GGuilbaultCAQ addressed the very topic of teens catching the #coronavirus, warning they must be more careful. But beyond those words, neither Guilbault nor Health Minister @cdube_sante announced any new measures to counter Quebec’s #COVID resurgence.
3) The number of new #COVID outbreaks is dizzying: five at Montérégie day camps; a cluster of newly two dozen cases among farm workers in the Saguenay; a bar in the Gay Village where staff and the owner tested positive; a Nautilus gym shutting down in Terrebonne, etc., etc.
4) Quebec reported its 16th day of #COVID cases above 100 on Monday, as well as three new hospitalizations. Montreal posted 45 new infections, regaining the spot as the epicenter of the resurgence from the Montérégie. See the fluctuating but rising orange line in the chart below.
5) As I tweeted earlier, Hong Kong has restricted gatherings to two people after observing more than 100 #COVID cases a day for five days. Belgium has imposed a curfew in Antwerp amid a surge in infections. What is Quebec doing? Pressing ahead with large gatherings as of Aug. 3.
6) At the neighborhood level, the chart below indicates that the highly contagious pathogen is circulating stealthily throughout the metropolis, not just in the Plateau Mont Royal where #COVID cases have spiked for days, but in the Sud-Ouest, in Hochelaga and further east.
7) This community transmission is coinciding with a resurgence in emergency-room overcrowding. (See the chart below). With the outbreaks unchecked, it may be a matter of time before some of these younger #COVID-infected patients walk into ERs or are rushed by ambulance to them.
