"At the Department, decisions must be made with no regard to political pressure --- pressure from either end of Pennsylvania Avenue, or from the media or the mobs" AG Barr Opening Statement
AG Barr will cite the Washington Post in his opening statement tomorrow when he calls out the fact that more unarmed white men have been killed by police this year than unarmed black men. Also he notes that many times the suspects were attacking officers when they were shot.
AG Barr acknowledges the concerns about racism as being legitimate but states that it's an oversimplification to treat it as "some deep-seated racism generally infecting our police departments." Points out that we need to treat each other as individuals, created equal.
AG Barr calls out the people demonizing the police, promoting slogans like ACAB, and "making grossly irresponsible proposals to defund the police." Calls such actions "gravely injurious to our inner city communities."
"The threat to black lives posed by crime on the streets is massively greater than the threat posed by police misconduct."
AG Barr points out 7,500 black Americans are victims of homicide each year, around 90% are killed by other black people. "Each of those lives matter."

"When the police are attacked, when they are defunded, when they are driven out of urban communities, it is black lives that will suffer most from their absence." AG Barr
AG Barr then points out that this massive uptick in crime and the communities that are suffering because of it is why Operation Legend is happening, and it is separate from the response to mob violence.
AG Barr calls out the violent rioters and anarchists that have hijacked legitimate protests to wreak havoc and destruction. Calling out Portland specifically where rioters are "armed with powerful slingshots, tasers, sledgehammers, saws, knives, rifles, and explosive devices."
"What unfolds nightly around the courthouse cannot reasonably be called a protest; it is, by any objective measure, an assault on the Government of the United States." AG Barr, who points out that the courthouse is property of the United States government and funded by Congress.
"Remarkably, the response from many in the media and local elected offices to this organized assualt has been to blame the federal government. To state what should be obvious, peaceful protesters do not throw explosives into federal courthouses..." AG Barr
That's twice that AG Barr has called out Congress (obviously, pointed at the Democrats) by stating that Congress funds that courthouse and the crimes committed against it are federal crimes under statutes enacted by Congress. Yet Democrat Congressmen refuse to denounce it.
"As elected officials of the federal government, every Member of this Committee -- regardless of your political views or your feelings about the Trump administration -- should condemn violence against federal officers and destruction of federal property." AG Barr
"To tacitly condone destruction and anarchy is to abandon the basic rule-of-law principles that should unite us even in a politically divisive time." AG Barr
"The most basic responsibility of government is to ensure the rule of law, so that people can live their lives safely and without fear." AG Barr
