I just finished having a conversation with our ACTUAL FRIENDS over @riotribs. Here’s the details anonymized:
The person currently “running” the blue tents downtown coordinated a VIOLENT expulsion of those who’ve been helping to coordinate the Riot Ribs tent for month.

24 hours ago, we all saw Riot Ribs telling us about someone trying to take over receiving donations. This context is important and provides further proof and validation of our beloved Riot Ribs folx desperately trying to keep the public informed.

@riotribs has been doing a great job downtown coordinating with others and working in consensus with the community. BY VOTE, the group at large chose to STOP accepting donation requests as a means to responsibly handle funds. Which is understandable.

This person running the sudden, new grifter account ( @riotribspdx - report it down) is the same person that was putting up signs to continue receiving money from the community despite the access of funds that a larger team working *together* has raised for our community.
So, according to our pals at @riotribs (the real account which announced its dissolution today) here’s wassup:

This man downtown has TAKEN OVER RiotRibs. He used force, intimidation, and straight up violence to expel people who were trying to hold him accountable for missing funds. As would be expected, he’s running a bait & switch game on that account rn lying to say our friends stole $$
The people who’ve been feeding us for weeks, actively coordinating with the Witches, giving money back to our community, getting people set up with gear and support have been violently run out of town after being assaulted.

Our comrades @riotribs have asked me to pass along the message that everyone they trust has left the Riot Ribs tent. Which means that, presumably, everyone downtown right now is working with their abuser. Either in ignorance of his abuses or knowingly. Proceed with caution.
This is a sensitive situation considering the multiple messages I received from @RiotRibs stressing that the reason they abandoned the blue tent (& THE CITY AS OF RN) is because of this violent, armed person who brought reinforcements to avoid financial accountability.

-A consensus made decision to work to max out their cash app limit daily reinvesting all funds into other community projects

I want to add that the first step to handling this like an abolitionist is to reach out to the victims, ask what they need, what they want, and how to support them.

Since this is a BLACK FOLKS ISSUE, I’m going to reach out to BLACK ABOLITIONIST LEADERS about how we should move forward as a community to ensure that our community’s hard work isn’t taken over by a grifter willing to use violence.
But here’s the thing, it was profitable for him to commit violence if y’all sweep it under the rug. It’s profitable if a bunch of white ppl start sowing division & supporting the LIES that @riotribs folks fled with money. They fled violence. And kept our communities money SAFE.
The best, safest thing to do with armed folks right now is to make sure:
A)We’ve got plenty of DE-ESCALATORS downtown in the area surrounding the blue tents. If some sort of mob style justice attempt happens the press & the pigs will have a field day

Y’all are learning in real time where violence comes from. It comes from a state that has failed us so thoroughly at providing resources (while simultaneously succeeding in brainwashing us to think that without money no one will help us) that we see incidences like this.
A black man, who is simultaneously by birth a victim of the white supremacist state, chose to enact violence against someone else for money. Take away the money & you take away the benefit of being there.
