Listening to the "tackle obesity" news and honestly it is making me so sad. Allow me to elaborate:
Eating a nutritional diet and exercising is 100% more important than calorie control.
Many foods that are bad for us are CHEAPER and EASIER to cook.
We need to 1) provide education on nutrition, 2) provide education on cooking, 3) allow people to access nutritional foods.
Stop yelling at people about calories and weight when a large amount of your audience have not been given the resources to understood you.
Also: let this not distract from the fact that foodbank usage has risen every financial year since 2008-9. (Torys in power since 2010 hmmmm).
Some people may have gained weight during lockdown, but until recently some children were at real risk of being underfed until the free school meals scheme was finally extended.
You can be "overweight" and still not be getting enough nutrition. It's not always about eating less, but eating better. This needs to be made affordable.
Mental health has also been a huge issue during lockdown. I believe right now is not the time for this focus.
In the meantime those who can afford to eat out get 50% off vouchers but let's stop buy one get one free offers on crisps? Cool.
Nutrition is a class issue. This is apparent in 100% of these new rules.
