In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Nadal and Djokovic met in the semifinal.
Whoever went through to the final would be the massive favorite and the match reflected both men’s will to win it.
Offensive attacking tennis, great baseline rallies and lots of beautiful points!
To have these two young guns fighting like gladiators is always a treat to watch!
Nadal was going to be #1 in a couple of days after the Olympics while Nole had broken through winning the 2008 AO! Nadal dominated the first set, but not without some great tennis from Nole!
What I love about these two at their young years is how aggressive they were, going for heavy shots like these!
Aggression from Djokovic! His serve was helping him dominate the points and move Nadal around a lot. It’s always going to be difficult to move young Nadal from one side to another, but Novak was going for it
Look at the swing young Rafa had and all these angles he was pulling! 2008 Nadal is a beast
Djokovic since a young age showed great defensive skills. His BH and return were developing as it was clear he was a more offensive player
The 3rd set was absolute quality. It felt like they could go for a long final set like Roger and Delpo did in 2012. Novak was serving second at 4-5, pressure. Nadal would raise his game
This is Djokovic saving match point.
This is Nadal saving game point.
One of most famous Match points I know, the missed smash would hunt Novak Djokovic for some time, heartbreaking way of losing the match!
Nadal however showcased his defensive skills at their best, you always have to play another shot against him! Nadal in the Olympic final!
