About a year ago, I did some research internationally on factors associated with post election violence, thinking "but it's unlikely to happen in USA". Key factors: polarized politics + emergence of conflict actions before election + anomalies OR absence of safeguards. Concerned.
Internationally accepted dispute resolution mechanisms can prevent physical conflict: specifically, if disputes arise, recounts and litigation. let's commit to follow acceptable processes. Prepare to shun conflict actors.
It is hard to even talk about this subject. But at this point it's important. The mark of a successful democratic system is PEACEFUL transfer of power. Regardless of who wins. The countries i studied who failed in this had terrible, long term, and unanticipated consequences.
