True social justice and race equity work requires us to expand our circles.

Before I met my husband, I had no interest in football and little appreciation for what athletes go through and sacrifice. I met him during our junior year of college, and I was soon at every game.
I even wore a shirt with his picture on it. When he was injured, I worried how bad it was. After the games, I helped him recover. I learned the basics of football. I listened. When someone did something out of line, I was ready to run onto the field to make it right.
I cared about the game and what happened to the players and what was fair and unfair because I was rooting - truly rooting - for someone on the field.

Are you truly rooting for someone on the field? Do you have a true connection to the communities who are being oppressed?
Too many people are watching from the stands with little understanding or appreciation of what's really happening because they don't know ppl who are being impacted.

That's what makes us ready to run onto the field and fight for what's right.
