It's an incredibly good point.

Regardless of what the American Flag symbolizes to protesters who are conscious of the oppression it represents, it's iconography is sacred to the country at large.

And that's not trivial. https://twitter.com/SquidBeanie/status/1287835262295261185
The point he makes -- that images of secret police drawing weapons at people waving Old Glory will have an resounding effect.

America loves it's symbols and iconography.

Subverting them as necessary should be a priority
This movement needs to reclaim and redefine patriotism.

It needs to take claim of the symbols of freedom that have never actually represented the needs of the majority.

It needs to wrest control of the powerful imagery and patriotic themes from those who use them to oppress.
The opposition is currently literally rallying around the Confederate flag.

Let them have it.

Let's take them stars and stripes to represent what WE want them to.

Black people are famous for subverting white cultural symbols.

Let's step it up.
Hate the flag? You the burning type?

Then the actual flag doesn't actually mean anything to you. That's fine.

So it's just as easy to use it tactically to undermine white supremacists by decoupling it from its reflexive association with right wing America.
Use the flag properly.
By US Flag code.

Don't let it touch the ground... All that good stuff.

Let masked troopers with weapons from the government endanger the flag.

Let Fox news implode.
America has been steeped in patriotic imagery. We have a reflexive reverence for American history myths.

It's how we got Hamilton.

So just step into the image.

Don't argue for the equivalency between protests and the tea party.

Show it.
