My FAVORITE comment on my Jstar video is people who think that I think white people are damned if they do and damned if they don't. It's not lost on me that white folks see me as antagonistic... in a conversation about supporting black people.
I really do hold white people's hands and lead them to the information, but they still act like I'm chiding them because I refuse to act like them engaging in anti-blackness isn't hurtful to me.
Hey, newsflash, if you're not interested in hearing how your misapplied support of black folks is hurting black people, you're not an ally and when you withdraw your support, you're not withdrawing shit.
I'm really gonna need white people to have these conversations for something other than their ego. The ego is what makes your support feel dishonest. Why are you posting black lives matter on social media, but also being afraid to listen to what black folks are saying?
Half of this shit would be avoidable if you just genuinely got involved and genuinely decided to understand the conversation to the point where you're so passionate about fighting against this stuff that you won't post black lives matter on your page to save face,
but because you're REALLY invested in it.
My problem with this performative activism shit is some of ya'll just think if you put blacklivesmatter in your profile that's literally all you need to do.
There's no self examination, no self reflection, no self crit. So when you hear black folks being like "hey this isn't helpful", you can't help but say "well but look, i put it in my profile, SEEE," and that's not the fucking point.
Fight against anti-blackness because it's the right thing to do, not because it makes you look good to your white friends. I hate watching people do these wokeformances for their white friends while socially distancing from black folk every other day of the year.
For example, I live in a neighborhood where I try to be friendly to everyone and there are people in my building with BLM on their windows who are never receptive to me when I say hello to them. There's a disconnect there.
They immediately have that typical grabbing the purse reaction for a reason and BLM stickers don't fix that. Come on.
I dunno, most of the comments are positive, but it's still sometimes sucks to get comments from folks who I know didn't bother watching my video because I'm a black girl. My points are super clear and I address that literal point.
I dunno, i'd prefer ya'll didn't say anything than say something and throw it in our face.
I also love the wig comments that are posted as though I'm unaware that I'm wearing a wig. lol.
