Peer support is important.
Autistic parents face struggles non-autistic parents don't face...and they need safe spaces to discuss these to get the needed support and advice.
Our autism is often used against us, so finding safe spaces is paramount.

It's okay to have struggles non-autistics don't have.
It's okay to be overwhelmed by your child's cries for example...put the right support and accommodation in place to help (like noise-cancelling headphones).
This doesn't make you a bad parent!

Parenthood comes with a lot of socializing expectations - with other parents, teachers, doctors, professionals, your child's hobbies...navigating that can be hard.
You may need to do these things differently, or have someone else do them for your kids.

Be aware that professionals sadly still are often uneducated about autism. Disclosing your autism may be used against you.
Autistic parents are sadly often targeted to have their children removed by social services...be aware of this and know how to counter it.

Autistic parents are more likely to have autistic children...but don't expect it. Be prepared for your child to be neurotypical.
Even if your child is autistic, they won't necessarily end up being a lot like you. They may have totally opposite needs!

Good and bad parents exist everywhere - regardless of their neurotype.
There is no such thing as a universal disqualifier for having the potential to be a good parent.
But it's important that the struggles are discussed openly...because then helping becomes possible!
