Women's pro soccer was the first US sport back on the field, and they just wrapped up a successful month of games yesterday with their final champions game. The weird part? The Orlando team had 6 members test covid positive before it began, and the team was blocked from it.
The other 8 teams all happily lived and played in the bubble in Utah for a month, including staff and trainers, probably like 200-300 people total, and no one got sick.
MLB just started, and the Florida team is the first to post positive tests. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29547211/two-mlb-games-postponed-marlins-outbreak

I don't post this as LOLFlorida, but given the history during the women's pro soccer, why weren't the Marlins heavily tested before entry into league play?
Women's pro soccer showed that life in a bubble was safe, they all shared the same field and were isolated in college dorms for a month, and no one got sick.
Why are MLB have teams flying all over? Why not create a bubble on a campus and just play 3 games/day on 1 diamond?

I can't believe baseball teams were flying around to games, it's wild. What in the fuck is MLB thinking, players would have tons of contact with random strangers in airports, stadiums, hotels, etc, in every new city. What a recipe for disaster.
Women's pro soccer had everyone in a dorm, they delivered meals to them, and no outsiders were brought in and they had a protocol for people leaving the bubble (to go to the hospital for a x-ray, etc) and how they might be let back in. It was all done with care and it worked.
I bet the NFL and NBA are going to get derailed if MLB cancels everything, but Women's Pro Soccer showed careful planning combined with conscientious players and coaches and trainers and families can make it all work.
you'd think pro athletes and their unions would be all for being extremely careful about everything—in sports your body's health is your most important asset, it's literally what your career is built on. They can't handle lung damage of any kind and expect to ever play again.
