Speaking to my Anishinaabe brother this morning about anti-Indigenous racism training in businesses. He was asked to lead training with his colleagues. When he asked how much time he would have, he was told 10 mins. This is tokenistic. This is not ok. If anti-Indigenous racism...
If this is a priority in your business, then give us the space and time to do what we need to. If you are going to ask your employees to lead it, pay them in addition to their salary. And if you are truly committed to change, you would make sure your employee has protection...
They are leading with their identity and whether or not you want to believe it, there will be backlash. There will be ignorance. There will be racism. So there needs to be social-emotional support for the leader of the learning. And if you are the person asking for the training,
Then you need to be present at the learning. Don’t just be the scheduler. You have to be invested! That’s what leaders do.

So many thoughts about this. Really concerned about the safety of my Anishinaabe brother. That’s my thought for today. #tokenism
