I just remembered that this is my account and I can tweet whatever I want so in that spirit here's an annoyingly long thread of some of my favorite books by Black writers :)
Oreo by Fran Ross

Weird and fun and good and irreverent which is my favorite kind of book!

Maud Martha by Gwendolyn Brooks

Poetic and coming-of-age and vignette-y in a good way!

Men We Reaped by Jesmyn Ward

Extremely sad but extremely good. Also, not a novel!

Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid

Kinda a beach read but includes so much toddler cuteness. Also, if you've ever worked as (or employed) a nanny you have to read this because that dynamic is so fucked up and it's hard to find books about it.

The Mother by Brit Bennett

Duh! I haven't had time to read the vanishing half yet so please don't yell at me :) The Mothers is excellent and interesting and also sad.

Gingerbread by Helen Oyeyemi

Definitely not for everyone but if you, like me, can handle a bit of saccharine fairy tale, this gets dark and weird.

The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead

Fucked up and too sad but really good.

Friday Black by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah

AHHHHH!!!! I am *not* the number one fan of short stories but if you're not reading this you are making a mistake!!!

Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde

As a Dumb White Girl (tm) I learn a lot every time I read this.

White Teeth by Zadie Smith

I know there's lots of Zadie Smith but I read this one when I was super young and it will always have a special place in my heart :)
