. @DNC just cut me off on their conf. call when I tired to correct the record and say Republicans want to provide $70 billion in additional funds over and above the $70 billion DOE's annual budget to give each child $10k in funds for private schools, in-home tutors
from my story from this morning:
A senior administration official countered union opposition to the plan by calling that argument that they are defundign public schools “the height of dishonesty.” https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2020/07/27/trump_gop_push_school-choice_funds_in_covid_aid_bill_143808.html

Out of the $105B the Trump admin. is requesting in the next coronavirus spending bill, $70B would be dedicated to supporting K-12 w. approx. $35 billion of that sum reserved for schools that reopen. That $70B comes comes in ADDITION to Dept. of Education's annual budget of $70B.
Democrats are saying Trump and Republicans want to defund public schools, and won't move off the talking point even went confronted by the exact numbers @SenatorTimScott and @LamarAlexander are putting forth in their bill.
This is billions in ADDITIONAL funds to give parents who want to find alternative in-person or in-home learning for their children. Advocates for giving parents choices are calling "hire a nanny" the new "let them eat cake." https://nypost.com/2020/07/08/new-yorks-school-decision-a-slap-in-the-face-to-parents/
