I'm designing my fall syllabus and trying to make both my life and my students' lives easier, now that I've had more experience teaching online. Three things I'm trying this semester:
1) I'm giving students two "freebie" late assignments. They can submit work up to a week late with no questions asked/no explanation needed. After those two, I'll offer feedback on late work but no grade.
2) I'm implementing a "last call" for questions about assignments, which is 48 hours before the deadline. I'm SO tired of having students email me in the middle of the night before a deadline asking for help. It sucks for both of us.
3) I'm creating virtual office hours in different "shifts," so that if someone works a 9-5, I'm available at least one day until 7 p.m.
Has anyone tried these with/without success or have other ideas as I finalize the syllabus? #AcademicTwitter #AcademicChatter
