In the Mahabharata (Shanti Parva), after dwelling on the greatness of other Varnas and dharmas, Bhishma Pitamaha speaks on the criticality of Kshatriya Dharma:
2/6
Bhishma ji says Kshatriya Dharma is connected most broadly to every social & intellectual sphere, balancing mass & significance, pragmatism and abstract theory. It is also the most utilitarian.

He suggests other dharmas tend towards autism, even when they produce brilliance.
3/6
Kshatriya Dharma includes every kind of self-sacrifice, including, of course, the ultimate sacrifice of martyrdom.

While many sacrifices are for self-discipline & growth, many others are purely altruistic.

Kshaatra protects all other Varnas.
4/6
The necessity for a policy & enforcement of punishment to uphold archaic Dharmic culture is critical.

Once that capability of Kshaatra is lost, the Vedas (and their interpretation) sink to lower states of consciousness. All other dharmas become mechanical or die out.
5/6
All types of sacrifice and detachment can be seen in Kshatriya Dharma.

All types of initiations are found in the growth of the Kshatriya mind & body.

All arts & sciences are necessary to Kshaatra. It is the thread that connects all worlds.
6/6
A person or society can choose to cultivate the values of the Predator or the Prey.

If a Dharmic Kshatriya does not organize to be top dog, then an inferior phenotype will. And he will shit on Dharma even if he tries to be 'righteous' according to his own nature & religion.

Without Dharm, everything goes haywire."
