It's Day 3 here at #MarxistUniversity and I'm learning about the differences between Anarchism and Marxism with my comrade John Peterson. A lecture I wasn't sure I was ready to hear, (I have a special place in my heart for Anarchy lol). But I'm so glad I did. My highlights below.
First, Marxism & Anarchism both want a stateless society, so u could say the end goal is the same. The way to get there, tho, is different: anarchy relying on spontaneity & instinct, and marxism on organization & strategy. But with spontaneity and instinct, how will things last?
From the experience of being the working class, authority & power has shit all over us. Power itself is hurtful. So the anarchic tendency is to NOT use power like that, by not ever touching it. But that makes us complicit in letting fascist militant authorities remain IN power.
I learned that anarchy has an ideal of upholding and protecting one's individual freedom, and also one's private property. And while it's good to respect the autonomy of others, this can quickly devolve into a tyranny of the "strongest personality" in group situations.
And so without structure & organization, it becomes harder for a group like that to protect itself from the right wing powers that r intent on destroying us. In the end, anarchy is quite idealistic and metaphysical, sooo yeah we needa be careful and keep reading Marx lol #IMU2020
