Here's how to make friends with other freelance writers when you're terrible at Twitter, a thread in response to @FolkRebellion's question on this topic. *cracks knuckles and starts typing* (1/7)
1. Promote other freelance writers' work. Share links to their articles and tag the writer in the post. Say one key takeaway that made the piece resonate with you. (2/7)
2. Offer help. Email this writer and say, " I love your work! I write for X publication. They pay [this much] per article. Let me know if you'd like my editor's contact info. I think you'd enjoy writing for them because X reasons." (3/7)
3. Be interested in their upcoming work. Ask if they need any help brainstorming story ideas or refining a tricky pitch. Share your own struggles. See if they seem interested in helping you. (4/7)
4. If they seem receptive, suggest scheduling a 20-min phone date to get to know each other better. During this phone call, suss out where they come from and where they hope to go. So if you can help them get there! (5/7)
5. Keep supporting this writer. Check in on them every few weeks to see how they're faring. Be genuine. Be vulnerable. Keep it up. Make it a habit to reach out to other freelancers. Every season, I try to connect with 1-3 writers I admire. (6/7)
