Todays story is "the Huron Superior Treaty case". And possibly what this means moving forward.

That has some basic awesome info. A few cousins of mine have been included in this. And they are pretty awesome.
This picture has been used many times on news articles over the last bit, showing Chief Sayer of Batchewana FN, Chief Day (he was Serpent River Chief years back when I first met my Bisson cousins, and then regional Chief), Chief Peltier from Wikwemikong (yes they are unceded but
He is still full of knowledge, and amazing helper), and others in the picture like Roger Daybutch (an elder in Missisaugui I love to bug (he nicknamed me the library, and the archivist lol arent cousins fun @DayIsadore 😂😂) and others, all who all fall under the FN 1850 treaty.
So, basics: since 1850, nothing has changed. And that includes land claims (Garden River FN has had boundary cases won), annuity payments (still at 4 dollars per person, never raised for inflation), and so much more. (Oh also a shoutout to Patsy Corbiere, shes so awesome).
The first claim (a 55 page document found on the site above) was first spoken to in court in 2017. (Phase 1 took 3 years). Over a year later, Dec 2018, Courts ruled in favour of the applicants..

The Crown does have obligations. It was mandatory that they look at the basics of
The treaty from 1850, and the Crown was told they had been "short-changing" FN in the area for over a century. Justice Patricia Hennessy presided over that case at the time, writing it's the Crowns DUTY to fulfill the treaties promise to increase the payments over time. But she
