I’m frustrated waitse. 1) As batswana we take too long to seek medical attention when we notice stuff growing on our bodies 2) Biopsy results take forever to come through, by the time you have them the patient is either dead or the cancer has progressed....
3) If you’re lucky to get biopsy results before the patient has deteriorated, you have to wait for about a month or so for oncology review. Meanwhile the patient and family are also frustrated because they think we’re not doing our level best.
4) sometimes after waiting 4-6 months for biopsy results they come back as benign when even a blind man can see that the tumor is malignant, so you have to take another sample and repeat the whole process while the patient, relatives and support staff are growingly frustrated
5) you have patients coming to the hospital saying “my traditional doctor told me you would say it’s cancer but he told me it’s not” and others who say “ntogeleng ke ikeleng ngakeng ya setswana e e go ntsha golo mo, lona le mpeile hela ha”
So many of our people are dying because of cancer

I wish there was a way we could improve all of this. I’m so frustrated. I feel like we are failing.
